I’m the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at the Allen Institute, where I lead teams in leveraging computational techniques to accelerate data-driven breakthroughs in the biosciences. Over the past three decades, my work as a data scientist specializing in AI/ML has focused on driving tangible impacts of responsibly applied technologies. I have held leadership roles and developed AI Innovation programs at Microsoft, Intel, Accenture, Rewired Ventures, Vulcan Inc, and Language Computer Corporation. I have co-founded three pioneering AI-focused startups (Swingly, Extractiv, and A.R.O. Inc.), and was part of the team that co-founded the Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence and the Vulcan Proving Ground. Over the course of my career, I have led research in natural language processing, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and computer vision in collaboration with IARPA, DARPA, and the U.S. Department of Defense. My work can be found in the proceedings of AAAI, ACL, SIGIR, and NeurIPS.
